Santa Claus Village – Lapland, Finland

Everyone is thrilled when it’s December. Christmas decorations can be seen throughout the stores and shopping malls, even in your office. It always makes my heart flutters like you could get something good and the joy of Christmas is in the air through hundreds of Christmas songs played. You just can’t get bored of Christmas songs, right? It totally makes you feel like it’s already Christmas Eve.

Back in your childhood you always want to meet Santa Claus but you can’t because it’s a myth. In fact, there is a place in Finland called Santa Claus Village. It’s located in the capital of Lapland, Rovaniemi. It’s the official home of Santa Claus. I only knew it just hours ago. I was so hyped up and put the place on my bucket list “Places to go before I die”. You can literally feel like it’s white Christmas for 24 hours a day.

You can reach there by plane, around 5 hours from Heathrow Airport, England. You will have to choose Helsinki as the first destination then continue to Rovaniemi, where the magic begins. Sorry, I’m in the “holiday movie” mood already, geez.

There is many places for you to stay there, from hotels to glass igloos. The place that caught my attention was a place where the roof is made from glass and you can watch Aurora Borealis (Northern Light) like your usual night sky, from bed. How cool is that! You can also see Rudolph there, I mean reindeer, like the one on Santa Claus sleigh.

This is the opening hours of the Santa Claus Village:

8 January – 31 May 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
1 June – 31 August 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
1 September – 30 November 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
1 December – 7 January 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Annual exceptions (public holidays):

30 April 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
1 May 12 a.m. – 3 p.m.
24 December 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
25 December 12 a.m. – 5 p.m.
31 December 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
1 January 12 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Without further ado, this is the video of  Santa Claus Village.

I don’t think my words can describe how magical it feels to be there. I thought this could be your next unusual destination. I just can’t wait to visit the village.
