4 Reasons to Watch Shadowhunters S1 (TV Series)

Do you guys know The Mortal Instruments novel series written by Cassandra Clare? If you don’t know a thing about it, it doesn’t matter, there is always a first time for everything. The Mortal Instruments novels are basically fantasy novel full of action and drama. There are six books in total that will bring you through journey of thousand smiles and heart-wrenching stories. In 2014, the novel was made into a movie, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The film was not very well accepted, because the story was too shallow compared to the first book with the same title.

Fortunately, in 2016, the novel series was made into a tv series called Shadowhunters. I was once skeptical about this production but I was wrong, here’s why:

Actors & Actresses

I would tell you guys, most of them are super attractive and hot, seriously. The whole episodes feels like eyecandy to me. Dominic Sherwood plays as the strongest and fastest shadowhunter, Jace Wayland. Katherine Mcnamara plays as red-headed Clary Fray. Emeraude Toubia plays as Isabelle Lightwood. Matthew Daddario plays as Alexander Lightwood. The Lightwoods are seriously attractive, I would gave my sincerest gratitude for casting them, perfect job. Alberto Rosende plays as the daywalkers, Simon Lewis. Isaiah Mustafa as Lucian Graymark. The last but not least, Harry Shum Jr. plays the warlock, Magnus Bane. With list of attractive actors and actresses don’t mean everything is settled. Their acting skills were good enough, but not really intimidating, so in some episodes, I was missing the climax feel. I hope they could improve it on season 2. Yay, there will be season 2 coming next year.

Clockwise: Katherine Mcnamara, Emeraude Toubia, Dominic Sherwood, Matthew Daddario, Harry Shum Jr., Alberto Rosender, Isaiah Mustafa.

Cool Weapons

In this action series, I really wanted to steal their weapon. I meant, what was cooler than gleaming blades. Shiny and deadly. Daggers, long swords, mace, bow, and etc. There was a weapon that was really intriguing. It was Isabelle’s well-known snake whip. When she was on stand by mode, the weapon became the bracelet like a snake gripping on her wrist. When danger came, it could lengthen itself, became whip, and electrocuted the enemies. Such a elegant weapon, seriously. I hoped the stele could be more attractive, but it’s just okay for me.

Ignore the marker on the right, the stele is the on in the middle; used to carve runes onto the body of the shadowhunters.

You could watch their actions starting at minute 3:00.

Malec Shipping

When I first read the novel series, I didn’t know that Magnus and Alec were going to be a thing, but slowly as the chapters went by, I realized, they were in love with each other. I thought with their family restrictions, their backstreet love won’t be long, but I was wrong, they were struggling to keep the relationship. To my surprise, I found out that this couple has strong fanbase. Usually, gay couples are going to be ignored or bashed, but with Malec, it’s not the case. Nowadays, people are rooting for them and dying to see them together. For the fans, you are going to see quite a lot of malec scene in the series compared to the movie.

A lot of drama is going on in this series such as forbidden love between brother and sister, betrayal, coming out, a lot of one-sided love, political marriage, broken family, and many more.  The story line became more complex with all the drama and I loved it because it’s not a teary drama that will make you cry a bucket but it’s a heart-wrenching one that caused you to say “Why is it so unfortunate for them? what have they done wrong to deserve this mess?.” From the storyline, It’s quite good for me.

This 15 episodes series are my go to movies in months, now the season one is over, I just can’t get enough. Unfortunately, I would have to wait until January 2017 to watch the 21 episodes season 2. By the way, this series is also available for streaming on Netflix. So, go and check it out.
